JINS Design Project #06 Patricia Urquiola “HILO”JINS Design Project #06 Patricia Urquiola “HILO”

Concept

Patricia Urquiola, the Milan-based key player of the design world, teams up with JINS. Patricia is originally from Spain, so is the name HILO, which means ‘thread’. Forms that flow together tracing a single line and layers of nuanced shades are combined to suit your face, naturally, and easily. And for Patricia, it was crucial that we used environmentally-aware bio materials.

Hilo means ‘thread’ in Spanish and its story tells about the very fluid gesture of drawing a line that gives shape to the eyeglasses.
When I started the project, it became clear to me that the design approach to eyeglasses is totally different from the one applied to our tools for living. Indeed, eyeglasses are objects with a very intimate relationship to the human face. At the end, our eyes express our soul. Therefore, Hilo is a very simple piece that you can wear in a very natural way. It is not an imposing design, it is adaptative. Also, colors have been chosen with a lot of attention not to ‘force’ the facial features. We introduced some new colors for JINS like green and we experimented with the bio-based material. The result is a very ‘mild’ eyewear collection.

The JINS Design Project #06 is about “Patricia Urquiola, a key player in the world of design.” The designs of Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola,
a key player in the world of design.

For the current project, we chose to collaborate with Patricia Urquiola, a globally renowned designer who is originally from Spain, and currently based in Milan. Tapping the characteristics of sustainable materials for this collection, the design process was a series of experiments in drawing out the potential of both material and technology, resulting in the creation of a collection with highly distinctive details and coloring, which also suit all individuals. This is designed as a message from Patricia, a line that connects to the future.
